Rhenium is a very rare metal, with its tiny share in the earths crust, believed to be a maximum of 1 part per billion. It has an extremely high melting point, third in the periodic table. It also has the second highest boiling point. In 2008 Rhenium was selling for over $10,500 per Kg. Although the price has come down, it is still in extremely high demand for the small amount produced every year, estimated to be about 40 tons.
