Hafnium is the sister element to Zirconium and can be derived from Zirconium. Most of the production of hafnium is applied for use in control rods used in nuclear reactors. Being highly corrosion resistant is has many other applications in different alloys.
A cautionary notice is to never machine or grind it down as it can spontaneously combust when exposed to air.
